What to do with an OGG transcript
Voice notes are quick to send and slow to listen to. Reading them is the fast part.
- Read a long voice note instead of playing it. Skim a long Telegram or WhatsApp message on the train, or find the one detail you need without listening to it all. More on chat voice notes: voice memo to text.
- Keep what was agreed in a chat. Save the text of an important voice message, an address, a plan or an instruction, where you can find it later.
- Quote a voice message word for word. Copy the exact words of a spoken message into an email, a report or a reply.
- Word (DOCX) for the record. Download the OGG's transcript as a Word (DOCX) document to keep or edit, or as a PDF to forward.
- Sound from a game or a wiki page. Transcribe dialogue shipped as .ogg in a game's files, or a spoken recording from Wikimedia Commons.

What an OGG is, why chat apps use it, and what you download.
OGG, the file you upload
Ogg is an open container format from the Xiph.Org Foundation. An .ogg file usually holds Vorbis audio, and it can hold Opus instead. Telegram voice messages are usually Opus in an .ogg file; WhatsApp voice notes are Opus too, usually saved as .opus or .ogg, and we take both extensions. Wikimedia Commons, the media library behind Wikipedia, keeps much of its sound as Ogg, and games and open-source software often ship sound as .ogg. TXT and Word, the downloads
In TXT you get a brief header with the recording's name, language, length and date, and below it the transcript, speaker names and [m:ss] times included or left out as you like. Word (DOCX) presents the same transcript as a document for editing or printing.

What it doesn't do
A few things to know about OGG files and voice notes.
- No .oga files. An .oga, the audio-only Ogg extension, isn't taken. Save or export the audio as OGG, MP3 or M4A and upload that.
- No reading your chats. PrismaScribe can't open Telegram, WhatsApp or any chat for you. Save the voice message as a file first; the voice memo to text page shows how.
- No .opus in the iPhone app. The app's Files picker takes .ogg but not .opus. Upload an .opus voice note on the website, in your phone's browser or on a computer.
- PDF in Latin, Greek and Cyrillic letters only. Voice notes in other scripts download as TXT, Word, Markdown, SRT or VTT.

- Background noise removal and custom vocabulary are on a paid plan and count 2× and 1.25× the minutes.
- Free covers 30 min monthly with a cap of 15 min a day, and handles a single voice note at a time.
- On Free, an OGG over 15 min sent through the website is transcribed up to 15 min; the iPhone app won't accept it.
- Top-up hours remove the daily and per-file time limits on Free; the 500 MB cap on file size still applies.

How do I turn an OGG voice note into text?
Save the voice message from the chat as a file, sign up free and upload it, leaving the language on detect or choosing it. An email arrives when the transcript is ready in your dashboard; read it there, click any word to correct it, and copy or download it.
What is an .ogg file?
Audio in Ogg, an open container from the Xiph.Org Foundation. Inside is usually Vorbis audio, sometimes Opus. Voice messages, game sound and many Wikimedia Commons recordings come as .ogg.
Can I transcribe Telegram and WhatsApp voice notes?
Yes. Telegram's voice messages are usually Opus in an .ogg file, and WhatsApp's are usually saved as .opus or .ogg; both extensions upload. The voice memo to text page covers getting them off a phone.
My file ends in .oga or .opus. Will it work?
An .opus works on the website; the iPhone app's picker doesn't take it. An .oga isn't taken: save or export it as OGG, MP3 or M4A, then upload.
Is OGG to text free?
Yes, on Free, without a card: 30 min a month, no more than 15 min a day, files up to 15 min and 500 MB, one at a time, and every download. For longer recordings, look at the plans or add top-up hours that never expire.
How long can an OGG be?
Up to 15 min and 500 MB on Free, 5 hr and 2 GB on Starter and Premium, 8 hr 20 min and 5 GB on Pro. If an OGG on Free runs longer, a website upload gets transcribed for its first 15 min.
Can the OGG transcript be a Word document?
Yes. Word (DOCX) is among the downloads, along with TXT, PDF, Markdown, SRT and VTT, and you can include or leave out speaker names and timestamps. For a script other than Latin, Greek or Cyrillic, Word or TXT works better than PDF.
Will it show who spoke in a recorded conversation?
Yes, on every plan, for up to 32 speakers, shown as Speaker 1, Speaker 2 and so on until you rename them; one rename updates every line. Speaker identification.
What if the voice note is in another language?
Any of 99+ can be transcribed, detected or chosen. To read it in your own, translate the transcript into any of 99+ languages. Translate audio.
